The Jomsom Muktinath Trek is one of Nepal’s most scenic and culturally rewarding short Himalayan trekking journeys. Located in the famous Annapurna and Mustang region, this trek combines spectacular mountain scenery, the dramatic Kali Gandaki Valley, traditional Thakali villages and the sacred pilgrimage site of Muktinath.

The journey takes you through the diverse landscapes of the Annapurna Conservation Area, from the greener lower valleys to the dry, trans-Himalayan landscapes around Jomsom and Muktinath.

The major attraction is Muktinath Temple at approximately 3,800 m, a sacred site revered by both Hindus and Buddhists. The temple area is famous for its 108 sacred water spouts and the natural flame at Jwala Mai.

The trek is ideal for travelers who want to experience the beauty of Mustang and the spiritual importance of Muktinath without undertaking the longer Annapurna Circuit.

Day 01 :

Day 1: Kathmandu to Pokhara

Altitude: Approx. 800 m
Drive: 6–8 hours / optional flight

Your journey begins with a scenic drive or flight from Kathmandu to Pokhara.

Pokhara is the gateway to many Annapurna and Mustang adventures and is famous for its beautiful lakeside setting and views of the Himalayan range.

Overnight: Pokhara

Day 02 :

Day 2: Pokhara to Jomsom and Trek to Marpha

Jomsom Altitude: Approx. 2,720 m
Marpha Altitude: Approx. 2,670 m
Flight: Approx. 20 minutes
Trek: 2–3 hours

Take an early morning flight from Pokhara to Jomsom.

After arriving in Jomsom, begin walking along the Kali Gandaki Valley toward the beautiful village of Marpha.

Marpha is famous for its traditional stone-paved streets, whitewashed houses, apple orchards and Thakali culture.

Overnight: Marpha

Day 03 :

Marpha to Tukuche

Altitude: Approx. 2,590 m
Trek: 3–4 hours

Continue along the Kali Gandaki Valley toward Tukuche.

The trail offers impressive views of Dhaulagiri, Nilgiri and the surrounding Himalayan peaks.

Tukuche is a traditional Thakali settlement with a rich history of trade along the ancient Trans-Himalayan route.

Overnight: Tukuche

Day 04 :

Tukuche to Kagbeni

Altitude: Approx. 2,840 m
Trek: 5–6 hours

Continue north toward Kagbeni.

The landscape gradually becomes drier and more dramatic as you approach the Mustang region.

Kagbeni is one of the most fascinating traditional settlements in the area and serves as the gateway to Upper Mustang.

Explore the narrow lanes, traditional houses and ancient Buddhist cultural heritage.

Day 05 :

Kagbeni to Muktinath

Altitude: Approx. 3,800 m
Trek: 5–6 hours

Today is the spiritual highlight of the trek.

The trail climbs gradually from Kagbeni toward Muktinath, passing through the beautiful Mustang landscape.

After reaching Muktinath, explore the sacred temple complex and surrounding areas.

Day 06 :

Day 6: Explore Muktinath and Drive/Trek to Jomsom

Altitude: Approx. 3,800 m → 2,720 m

Wake early to visit Muktinath Temple.

The sacred complex is revered by both Hindus and Buddhists. Pilgrims traditionally bathe under the 108 water spouts, while nearby Jwala Mai Temple is known for its naturally occurring flame.

After the visit, descend toward Jomsom by trekking or local transportation depending on road and trail conditions.

Day 07 :

Day 7: Jomsom to Tatopani

Altitude: Approx. 1,190 m
Drive: Approximately 5–7 hours

Travel south through the Kali Gandaki Valley toward Tatopani.

The landscape changes dramatically as you descend from the dry Mustang region into greener, warmer valleys.

Tatopani is famous for its natural hot springs.

Overnight: Tatopani

Day 08 :

Day 8: Tatopani to Pokhara

Drive: Approximately 5–7 hours

After breakfast, continue the scenic journey toward Pokhara.

On arrival, relax beside Phewa Lake or explore the vibrant lakeside area.

Overnight: Pokhara

Day 09 :

Day 9: Pokhara to Kathmandu

Drive: 6–8 hours
Optional Flight: Approx. 25 minutes

After breakfast, drive or fly back to Kathmandu.
